4. Weston McKennie

Let me start by saying this is a move that would probably never happen. Weston McKennie loves FC Schalke, he’s just signed a big deal and he wants to be to them what Gabriel Martinelli wants to be to us.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Still, it’s hard to deny that Weston McKennie is everything we would want in a midfielder. He is fierce, he is determined, he is fearless, he is a wrecker, and best of all, he’s an American. Although he’s burst through the bubble from prospect to top footballing talent, there’s still growth to be had for McKennie, who is learning how to fulfill that pivot role.

He’s been doing it for a while with the United States Men’s National Team, carrying the ball forward and even getting into goal-scoring positions. That has yet to prove reliable in the Bundesliga, but the foundation has been laid, he has the tenacity and athleticism to make it work, and if you’ve ever wanted a guy that just has a good all-around attitude, this is your guy.

Again, the likelihood of this happening ever, let alone any time soon, is very slim, but no list of “best possible Americans for Arsenal to purchase” would be complete with a pipe dream like Weston McKennie.

On to No. 3.
