1. Heir to Mesut Ozil

When Mesut Ozil was first linked to Arsenal, it was deemed impossible. He was too big of a signing. Too high profile. The Gunners didn’t make signings like that an Arsene Wenger surely didn’t. But then he did. And we got our first superstar in years at a record fee that, at the time, was a massive amount of money.

What is so different between the way we landed Ozil and the way we’ll land Havertz? When we signed Ozil, he was £20m more than our previous most expensive signing (Jose Antonio Reyes), not to mention 10 years removed from it.

Havertz would be £18m more than Pepe, our new record.

More than that though, Havertz is German himself, playing the same position as one of “the greatest player in German history,” again, according to Havertz himself.

The allure of being the heir to the Ozil throne will not be lost on Kai Havertz, and there will be an added appeal to the move in knowing that he’s the direct replacement of “one of the best players” in German history. After all, doesn’t Havertz want to be the same?
