Shkodran Mustafi – £15 million

Ironically, considering that it has been the most problematic position throughout the season, but Arsenal have a surplus of centre-backs. In fact, once you factor in those on loan and those returning from injury, Mikel Arteta will have eight available for selection next season. Most squads feature four or five. As such, the club has the chance to cash in on those centre-backs who will likely not be a part of Arteta’s plans. And there is no better option to do that with than Shkodran Mustafi.

David Luiz is the leader of the group and will likely see out the final year of his contract in a supporting role before leaving on a free. Meanwhile, Dinos Mavropanos, Calum Chambers and William Saliba all offer long-term options, if not especially convincing ones. That leaves the error-prone Mustafi and his £90,000-per-week wages.

The German has one year remaining on his contract. Arsenal have tried to sell him in almost every window since he arrived in an egregious £35 million deal. This is their last chance to recoup at least some value. With other options aplenty, I think they take it. £15 million, a hefty loss, but a problem out of the door.
