Henrikh Mkhitaryan – £15 million

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is enjoying his football on loan at Roma this season. The Armenian has struggled intermittently with injuries, but when he has been fit, he has mostly been a starter, including the last four matches prior to the present postponement. All in all, he has featured in 811 Serie A minutes this season, scoring an impressive six goals while adding three assists.

This production led Roma to make two bids earlier this season, the second of which valued Mkhitaryan at £10 million. Arsenal rejected them both as they seek £18 million. Given that Mkhitaryan is 31, has a year remaining on his contract, and is currently the Gunners’ third-highest earner behind only Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil, the club is not exactly in a strong negotiating position.

Nevertheless, they will be keen to offload Mkhitaryan to ease the stress on the wage bill and get younger in the wing positions. £18 million might be a little steep, but the club could expect to regain around £15 million. That would go a long to way to reinvestment in a younger replacement.
