2. Corentin Tolisso

When you mention players who could take Arsenal’s midfield to the next level Corentin Tolisso is someone who should be right towards the top of the list.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Arsenal disappointingly lost out to him to Bayern Munich in 2017, where he has largely played second fiddle in midfield since then, sitting behind Thiago Alacantara, who is one of the best possession-based midfielders in the world. Prior to that, however, Tolisso was an elite talent in France. He has not lost that ability.

Now at the age of 25, Arsenal would be getting a midfielder with his best years still ahead of him, who can play as number six or right, which is something Arteta would value, and still boasts terrific technical quality in possession, allied with intriguing physical and athletic qualities.

If the rumours are true and Bayern Munich are willing to listen to offers for him this summer, Tolisso could be the marquee signing that makes Arsenal a force again. He is a reclamation project and Arteta would have to tap into his prior potential, but the ceiling is tremendously exciting.
