3. Willian

The link to Willian doesn’t want to go away, and it’s annoying. But before I get too much into why it’s a bad idea, let me say that I would have loved Willian at the Emirates last summer. I have always feared him and having that speed and attacking ability on the wings would have sounded like a dream. Plus he’s free! What can go wrong with free?

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Let me tell you—wages and roadblocks. Willian would require no fee, but his wages would be pretty hefty and the worst part of all would be how much he would block off our incredible young winger corps.

Between Nicolas Pepe, Reiss Nelson, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli, we have both winger positions filled with no room to spare. All four of these guys need time more than anything. They are showing such fantastic ability on the pitch and such an excellent return on goals, it’s just a matter of time before they make it.

Willian gets in the way of that time, and for no discernible reason. It’s not like we need someone to carry the reigns while they grow. All four are ready in the here and now. We don’t need another winger not named Serge Gnabry.

No. 2 is next.
