2. Jesse Lingard

By far the worst idea that the Gunners have reportedly had over these past few weeks, Lingard is one of those few transfer rumors that I honestly—without any bias—can’t find a single thing that makes it make even partial sense.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Lingard isn’t a prospect anymore. He’s 27. He isn’t good at any specific thing. He’s an attacker who doesn’t consistently produce goals, doesn’t dribble particularly well, doesn’t create chances well, doesn’t retain possession well. He honestly doesn’t do anything well. Had this been a rumor four years ago, I still wouldn’t have liked it, but I could have at least said, “well, he’s got potential, so that’s good.”

Not the case anymore. Lingard has nothing we could possibly be interested in and it’s a rumor I’m keen to dismiss as erroneous because I just can’t fathom what would make Mikel Arteta or any higher-up at Arsenal Football Club go asking around about Lingard’s availability. That doesn’t make any sense because this is such a bad idea.

On to our last bad idea thus far.
