Arsenal: 3 points in Luka Jovic’s favor, 3 in Odsonne Edouard’s

Arsenal has to sort out their striker situation for next year, so let’s explore their two biggest links and the points in favor of each one.

As it stands, no one at Arsenal has any idea what this striker set-up is going to look like next year. Mikel Arteta even admitted that he was preparing multiple transfer plans depending on how the season planned out, and nowhere is that more relevant than at striker.

If he’s going to stay, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang needs a raise and he needs Champions League football.  For Lacazette, at the very least he needs a new contract. That’s a big commitment, and it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see both Aubameyang and Lacazette sold in favor of younger replacements.

Those replacements are currently being tipped as Luka Jovic and Odsonne Edouard. Both are just 22-years-old and both look like viable options to take the Arsenal striking corps into the next era alongside Eddie Nketiah.

But neither is going to be cheap. And with that in mind, how do you choose between the two? Glad you asked. Let’s dig into three reasons in favor of choosing Jovic and three reasons in favor of choosing Edouard.

Let’s start with the No. 3 point in favor of Edouard.

3, Edouard: Replaces Aubameyang

The biggest question in debating between the two is who do we need to replace? If we don’t make the Champions League or can’t afford to keep Aubameyang, we clearly need Edouard more than we do Jovic. Edouard is more of the Aubameyang type. He’s built on speed and forward movement. He’s a bit loose with the ball, but he counteracts that with so many goals (more on that later).

Edouard wouldn’t come cheap, but he would probably come cheaper than we would sell Aubameyang for. Meaning we can make a profit swapping out Aubameyang for Edouard, and that’s not a bad situation to be in.

That said, we have to consider the alternative at the No. 3 point in favor of Luka Jovic.
