Attackers

In case you can’t tell, the ambiguity of “attackers” is bringing out the facetiousness in me, but I can understand why Mikel Arteta wasn’t specific. We don’t know what kind of attackers we’re going to need. We may need a full revamp of central attackers—strikers and midfielders. The one position we explicitly don’t need is on the wings.

With that in mind, I’m choosing one striker and one central midfield attacker as our two top choices here, and it’s a dream combo. That’s the problem with these kinds of lists. You get your hopes up.

Here we go.

At striker, Luka Jovic is a dream. I think he’s a return to the kind of striker that we really need in order to be successful. The kind of striker Alexandre Lacazette is, albeit to a starker end of the spectrum. Jovic is primed to break out again and we can give him that opportunity.

And then there’s… Kai Havertz. Who is by no means unrealistic. Arsenal has “broke the bank” before and for a fit as perfect and talented as Havertz, it’s not impossible. But I still won’t get my hopes up.
