3. He’s done it before
Part of the hard part of picking our next captain is finding someone ready for the job. I do think that there are potential captain candidates in the likes of Kieran Tierney or Matteo Guendouzi, but are they ready for the armband? Methinks not.

Then there are obviously qualified candidates like David Luiz, but do we really want another temporary captain who is going to leave at the end of the year? Methinks not.
If you want that happy medium of someone who is ready to take the job and isn’t going to leave at the end of the year (or ever) who happens to be a leader and hold himself accountable, look no further than Granit Xhaka. You want to know how else I know what he would be a great captain? Because he’s done it before.
When he was the captain, we weren’t doing so bad. We were keeping our head above water, ready to progress with the right man in charge. We have that right man now in Mikel Arteta, now let’s get the right man on the pitch the armband again.
