1. He’s grown with and for the club

Okay, let’s talk about the falling out, because that wasn’t a good look for fans or for Xhaka. As the captain, he was booed off the pitch in an ugly home match against Crystal Palace and many thought that was the end of him. It was the boiling point of a tumultuous ongoing concern between him and fans.

But after speaking with Mikel Arteta, Xhaka came back out and rededicated himself the club. He owned up to his own mistakes and fans warmed to seeing him back on the pitch when he made his return.

It’s hard to grow without failure, and that failure from both player and fans has allowed both to grow with and for the club, and that makes Xhaka an even more attractive captain candidate. He has hit rock bottom and pulled himself back up and fans have done the same (in relation to Xhaka). So we know that both are in a better state if we move forward with giving him the armband again.
