Arsenal and Mikel Arteta have some massive decisions to make regarding the future of the front three positions. Here are the top four ways they could go.

Across the squad, Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal coaches have some serious decisions to make. There are serious weaknesses in defence and midfield, while in the more attacking positions are several players with which decisions must be made regarding their futures imminently. Much of what happens in the front three positions will ultimately depend on what Arteta thinks of the players at his disposal and what he requires in addition to or replacement of them.

So, here are four ways that the Arsenal head coach and his staff could venture next season.

4. Run it back

When Arsenal signed Nicolas Pepe last summer, fans were salivating over the prospect of having one of the best front threes in the Premier League. Liverpool and Manchester City have built their success on the brilliance of their respective attacking triumvirates, and now the Gunners were adding a highly regarded wide attacker with more than 20 goals to the Premier League’s co-Golden Boot winner and their Player of the Season.

However, it never quite worked as hope for. Pepe struggled to settle into life with his new team, Alexandre Lacazette’s form tailed off, while only Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang lived up to expectations, the Gabonese international again in the running for the Premier League Golden Boot. But just because it did not quite click in the first season does not mean Arsenal should give up on it.

All three are hugely talented players. They have complementary skill sets. They all work hard off the ball, they press well in defensive phases, and they have proven to be prolific and clinical every now and then. So perhaps, then, Arteta chooses to run it back and give his star offensive pieces one more year to figure it out.
