2. ‘Sign’ a striker

Aubameyang is not the only star offensive player with an uncertain future. While Nicolas Pepe is young and novel enough to be patient with, after a poor season, Alexandre Lacazette’s future is also in doubt. He will be 29 in the summer, has two years remaining on his contract, and has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid. The very same argument for selling Aubameyang can be made for selling Lacazette.

Moreover, in this instance, Arsenal could then ‘sign’ a new centre-forward. Offloading Lacazette would free up wage space to offer Aubameyang a new contract while opening up the centre-forward role that the club’s top goalscorer could flourish in.

Of course, this does not solve the left-wing problem. It simply shifts things around. But if Arteta is keen to keep Aubameyang, as he stated earlier in the season, it might have to come at the extent of Lacazette. The Frenchman, then, would be sold, Aubameyang can move into a central role, and the left-wing position can again be addressed in the transfer window.
