Arsenal: 5 players impacted by Thomas Partey move
1. Alexandre Lacazette
No player might be impacted than Partey’s transfer to Arsenal than Alexandre Lacazette. And the reason is quite clear: it has been widely reported that Lacazette with be traded to Atletico Madrid as some sort of swap deal between the two players.
Atletico had a deal agreed for Lacazette in 2017 upon the lifting of their transfer ban at the time. That ban was never rescinded as they expected and, two months later, Lacazette was on his way to the Emirates. Now, after three years, it seems as though Atletico might finally get their man.
Lacazette will turn 29 in the summer. He has two years remaining on his contract and will require a bumper new extension should he remain with the club beyond next season. Realistically, he will not be a part of Arteta’s long-term rebuild. So, why not swap him for a 26-year-old replacement who plays a crucial position of need?
Lacazette and Partey are of similar value, both represent crucial upgrades as positions of need for their respective teams, and could provide a win-win swap for both Arsenal and Atletico. This deal might just happen.
