Arsenal: One transfer target from each Serie A club
By Josh Sippie
Udinese
Truth be told, Udinese was the hardest club to find someone I would want to bring to Arsenal. With the second-lowest goal tally in Italy, it’s hard to look at the attackers for much inspiration, so you have to turn to the defense, which is all rather old, as players tend to be in Serie A.
What I settled on was William Troost-Ekong, the central peg of the Udinese back three. Anchoring the defense of a team that doesn’t score goals is no easy feat, and Troost-Ekong doesn’t have prolific stats to back up a claim of individual inspiration, but what he does have is a commanding presence that has held tight throughout the season and allowed Udinese to tapdance above the relegation zone with just enough people in between that they don’t need to be that worried.
Though it’s still closer than they’d like, having this guy at the back, holding everything together, has to inspire some confidence.
At 26-years-old, he’s their junior defender (believe it or not) and while he plays a much more passive style than what Arteta is used to, a bit of contrast never hurt anyone.
