2. Sell well and use player swaps

Even in the most plentiful of periods, selling high and ruthlessly is a terrific way for a club to raise funds to reinvest in other areas of the squad. Oftentimes this involves cashing in on a veteran player and getting younger at the same or other positions.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Arsenal have the opportunity do this with a number of different candidates. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the obvious candidate, but Alexandre Lacazette, Mesut Ozil, Granit Xhaka, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mohamed Elneny, and the army of ageing centre-backs all offer the opportunity to recoup at least some value.

Additionally, the potential for player swaps and trades can also decrease the need to spend. Take Arsenal’s pursuit of Thomas Partey, for instance. Atletico Madrid might have to sell the midfielder amid their own financial difficulties, but could Raul Sanllehi and co. take advantage of their longstanding interest in Lacazette and structure some form of swap deal?

Both processes lean on the same point: using veteran players as assets to exercise financial gain. Arsenal will need to manage their squad incredibly carefully, ensuring that they get maximum value for the players they already have in the squad. That means eking out everything that they are worth, either in sales or swaps.
