There isn’t a lot to not like about Odsonne Edouard potentially coming to Arsenal, but the news keeps getting better regardless.

There hasn’t been a lot to be optimistic about from recent Arsenal transfer rumors. From Dayot Upamecano reportedly being a dead end to the shocking, yet not all that shocking, revelation that the Gunners would be looking at free transfers and swap deals exclusively. It just hasn’t been a whole lot of positive.

Then Odsonne Edouard came back around. The young French striker has been linked as a potential replacement for either Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Alexandre Lacazette, perhaps both, with the Gunners aiming to go back to Celtic for more problem solving.

Only no price had ever been talked about. until now.

Now, the reported asking price could be as low as £25m, though that was reportedly at the lower end of the spectrum.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Still, with that as the baseline, even if it goes upwards of £35m-ish, it is still a happy price to pay when you consider that we might be able to sell Lacazette for exactly that much and Aubameyang for £20m more.

Edouard has been on an explosive goal-scoring track at Celtic. He’s been scoring more goals with each and every season. The more he plays, the more he scores. And while it would be unrealistic to think that would carry right over to the Emirates, it’s not unrealistic to think that he could start producing around 15-20 goals per season with very little acclimation time.

After all, goal production, when on a trajectory like his is, isn’t always that hard to translate to a new league.

Of course, the problem that remains is if the Gunners really do have an empty transfer budget. We know that about £15m goes towards the Nicolas Pepe payment and another £27m goes to William Saliba. But I can’t help but think that this empty transfer fund doesn’t include potential sales and seeing as how we can easily raise £25-35m, Edouard’s recent transfer update only serves to get us more excited that such a move is indeed possible.

We’re still waiting to find out just who will need replacing this coming transfer window, and it may turn out we don’t need a striker at all. But in the spirit of moving the club forward, I do believe that you could do far worse than selling our dynamic duo and re-upping the striking game with a little youthful infusion.
