Arsenal may or may not get another centerback in addition to William Saliba, so here are three reasons Saliba is all we need.

Arsenal‘s defense is currently in a state of severe flux, in case you hadn’t noticed. Remarkably, Mikel Arteta has turned this hodgepodge group around and made them look not just respectable, but pretty damn good. But he doesn’t want to bank on this collection of personnel for the future.

We might see Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi both leave this summer, as well as the questionable futures of Rob Holding and Konstantinos Mavropanos. David Luiz is committed to staying and Calum Chambers would be a wise soul to bank on. Then there is Pablo Mari. But aside from that, it’s just William Saliba, and that’s why many believe that one more centerback would be a pretty swell idea.

It might not happen, though. Despite Arteta highlighting centerback as a position of interest this transfer window, the rumors of lacking funds is a bit disturbing and I would rather see first investment made into the midfield, perhaps then the attack and then, if there’s some leftover, at centerback.

Or just not centerback at all. And here are three reasons why, starting with No. 3.

3. Calum Chambers

Ideally, you want at least three guys who care good enough to start at the top level and a fourth that can float. Some youth options can fill in below that.

Depending on who you ask, Arsenal already has that with their current stock. William Saliba, David Luiz, and your boy Calum Chambers. Chambers constantly gets overlooked as a Premier League caliber centerback and somehow he always manages to get tossed in the sell bin, but yet every time he takes the pitch he gets better and better. This is a guy that is capable of anchoring a top-tier defense if only he gets a prolonged opportunity to do so.

He was on the brink of solidifying that status when he went down for the year, but he will be back for next season and he will be more ready than ever to take the job over.

On to No. 2.
