Maybe it’s not as exciting as money spent right now, seeing as how we spent the money last summer and have had him on the books all along, but he will be joining us fresh, like a brand new sparkling signing, and he will be joining us with eyes on fixing this defense. Plus, if you do buy someone else, you run the risk of him sitting behind that someone else and… just sitting.

We spent the money, now use him. If additional funds aren’t there to buy an even higher profile centerback, so be it. It’s not the end of the world. Besides, David Luiz is sticking around and he’s proved immensely capable since Arteta arrived.

In an age when money is hard to come by, we have to spend smart, and seeing as how we already spent on the defense, we have to focus on other positions of need first, before we go revisit that same defense.
