2. Calum Chambers
Calum Chambers has been waiting to be the centerpiece of the ‘next era’ of this defense for years, and he finally has that chance (again) now. In fact, before all of this, before even Mikel Arteta, that’s exactly what he was shaping up to be under Unai Emery. The problem was his season-ending injury, which caused him to miss the next new era under Mikel Arteta.

Thankfully, all other “new era” guys also couldn’t get a foothold under Arteta, so the opening is still there to be the partner to Saliba’s ushering of the new new era. Chambers is still young, he’s still proven, he’s still a top-caliber defender. All he has to do is get back on the pitch on a consistent basis and everything will sort itself out.
Yet somehow, I just know what he will be linked to sales this coming transfer window. Fans somehow don’t grasp how good he actually is, and that always gives way to hearsay and rumors. Whatever the case though, Chambers is a candidate for the job, and a damn good one.
I had a really hard time choosing between No. 2 and No. 1. I switched them back and forth several times, but let’s keep the momentum going and get over to No. 1.
