If PSG really wants Aubameyang, who is our best player, then they can part with one of their best players too. But just… not Mbappe. I’m realistic. Marco Verratti has been linked to the Gunners before and it has never worked out, but same as always, he is such a perfect fix in the game of finding that midfield pivot we need.

Verratti is a versatile midfield solution who has been in his prime for like, five years. He’s just as relevant as he has always been as one of the top box-to-box midfielders out there. He’s creative, he provides a steady flow of assists, and his mobility is an upgrade to anyone currently at the club.

We’ve spent a lot of time talking about the best possible midfield these past few weeks, and if we can get Thomas Partey to add to Granit Xhaka, we’re just one really good midfielder way from a truly magnificent trifecta.

Verratti is valued at around £60m, which is what we should be expecting to get for Aubameyang anyway. So… straight swap?
