Arsenal: 3 sensible, budget-friendly centerback transfer targets
By Josh Sippie
1. Axel Disasi
When Axel Disasi first hit the transfer spectrum, the Ligue 1 connection had already worn too thin for me. I was tired of loading up on players from the French top-flight who had massive acclimation times.
Then I actually watched Axel Disasi and overcame all of that predisposition of negativity. Axel Disasi is the real deal. He’s the anchor of a Reims defense that is among the best in the world, surrendering just 21 goals over 28 matches. They are keeping their European hopes alive via their defense alone.
Disasi is a huge part of that. As with everyone else linked to the Gunners defense, he plays the ball well, he’s got the athleticism, he’s physical, yadda yadda. But what’s truly remarkable about him is that his price tag, at most, is looking at being around £15m. For what we could be getting, that is a steal.
I even posited the theory that he’s better than William Saliba, who would cost nearly twice as much.
Disasi is the real deal, he’s the kind of defender that fits the billing perfectly, and I hope we drop the links to £40m guys in favor of smart investments and spending the big money further forward up the pitch.
