If Arsenal are to invest this summer, they must first sell. While there are plenty of normal candidates, here are three curveball sales the club could consider.

In the current climate, teams will find it difficult to go on £100 million spending sprees. While that may have been normal in summers gone by, with matches postponed for at least three months in most countries, revenue streams have dried up and the ability to spend has been decimated. Arsenal are no different, and the Gunners will have to raise a large portion of whatever funds they do spend this summer.

So, with that in mind, here are three curveball sales that the club could consider.

3. Granit Xhaka

Granit Xhaka has started all but one Premier League match under Mikel Arteta. After being stripped of the captaincy and pushed to the verge of leaving the club in January, Arteta reinstated him to the starting XI and resurrected his north London career. Xhaka has been ever-present since, and has performed very well in a contorted central midfield position.

However, while Xhaka has been one of Arteta’s chief commanders and has justified his place in the team with several calming, reassuring performances, especially when he slotted into centre-back with only ten men versus Chelsea, the ceiling to his play still remains. He receives the ball horribly, especially under pressure, cannot carry the ball forwards and break lines by dribbling, and his poor athleticism causes issues in defensive phases. Xhaka thereby becomes expendable and a sale could be economically productive.
