2. We won’t get a fair price

This is a major factor here. Since Mavropanos has not yet played much or shown his true potential, he is still going to be tremendously undervalued. We could only see a couple million pounds in return for him, so what’s the point? I get that we need to clear dead weight, but a 22-year-old centerback with tons of potential is hardly deadweight.

Maybe if he was more in Matteo Guendouzi‘s position, where hype had driven up his price and we could expect a hefty return, but that’s not where it is right now. So we would gain nothing from selling him and we’d lose far less.

This coming transfer window is all about smart financial moves. We have a few key sales we can make to raise money and a few smaller sales that will hopefully augment that total. Mavropanos won’t. And all we’ll get in return is a big question of what he could have been if we’d kept him.

Just because he’s only playing in Bundesliga 2 right now doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have what it takes. Which, since we’re on the topic…

No. 1 is next.
