It’s just remarkable how good Bernd Leno is and, by that same token, how underrated he is. You never hear about just how tremendous he is because of the fate of the club around him. I know I draw this comparison a lot, but it’s the same with Wojciech Szczesny. He never got the credit he deserved because his defense was terrible. Now that he’s at Juventus he’s one of the best in the world.

As this Arsenal defense improves around Leno, Leno’s quality is shining through more and more. And it’s not just shot-stopping. We always knew he was an excellent shot-stopper. It’s his decision making. It’s the lengthening gap between errors. It’s his handling of the ball under pressure. It’s his understanding of when to come off his line.

Leno is the keeper that made Gooners stop stressing about keeper. And when is the last time that happened?

This year has been even better than last, and that’s saying something. He’s been on top of his game and he will be an absolute shoo-in for the player of the season. At least he should be.
