Arsenal: 3 improvements Matteo Guendouzi must make to become star

1. Positional awareness

I think we can all agree that the biggest problem with Matteo Guendouzi’s game is that he doesn’t have any discipline when it comes to his positioning. He goes where the ball is, whether that’s the corner flag or the opposing goal box.

There have been midfielders who play like this over the years—Aaron Ramsey for instance—but Aaron Ramsey had a goal record to back up his style of play and even still, many people never understood the Welsh Xavi and the freedom he needed to be at his best.

If Guendouzi is going to play without positional discipline, he’s going to need to produce a lot more than he does while always understanding that no matter how much he does produce, many would still prefer he just learn how to stay at home, in his position.

Of course, we also just need to figure out what kind of midfielder Guendouzi is, since it’s really not clear yet. He still does a little bit of everything, but something more specific might help us better understand the best way forward.
