Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Pros and cons to signing Thomas Lemar
By Marc Gibbons
Cons
The first thing that comes to mind is Thomas Lemar’s mindset. He’s essentially been a bit-part player the last two years and his confidence is likely shot to bits. Next season, ideally, we are going to want players to hit the ground running and I don’t see that happening with Lemar.
If I’m being optimistic, it would potentially take at least three months to get his confidence back and coupled with acclimating to the Premier League, we probably wouldn’t see the best of Thomas Lemar in his first season.
As a comparison, look at Nicholas Pepe, who moved to the Premier League after the best season of his career and it’s taken him over six months to adapt. Could we really afford to carry a player for a whole year whose wages likely wouldn’t reflect his output?
We also have to consider the young players who will be vying for the same positions: Saka, Nelson, Smith Rowe, and Martinelli are a few can play a similar role and you can argue they all have the potential to be better than him. Mikel Arteta is invested in the youth players at Arsenal and any potential signing could stunt their growth.
