Arsenal: 3 more Bundesliga players who impressed
The Bundesliga continued this week in its resumption. Here are three more players who impressed that Arsenal could consider from the matches that I watched.
This weekend was the second week of Bundesliga action following their return from play being postponed. There were some excellent performances across the division, including Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund all getting crucial victories at the top of the standings. But which individuals impressed who Arsenal could target this summer?
Here are three more players that could be attractive options for the Gunners following strong showings this weekend.
NB. I watched three matches this weekend — Leverkusen vs. Monchengladbach; Munich vs. Frankfurt; Leipzig vs. Mainz. All three players will be from these matches.
3. Edmond Tapsoba
Bayer Leverkusen were supreme in their victory over a very dangerous Borussia Monchengladbach. Kai Havertz stole the headlines with another two goals, but young defender Edmond Tapsoba continued his surge into prominence with another composed, calm, and confident performance at the heart of the Leverkusen defence.
Tapsoba is still only 21 years of age, but playing on the right side of a back three with Sven Bender dropping in from midfield, he was excellent. Like every young defender, he is excellent in possession. He had the most touches of Leverkusen players and completed 84.3% of his passes. His passes produced a combined progressive distance of 235 yards over the 90 minutes.
Defensively, he is quick and calm. Leverkusen implemented a relentless high press, especially in the first half. Tapsoba’s control of Marcus Thuram, one of the most physical and athletic weapons in the Bundesliga, was critical to this. He was rarely beaten by the Monchengladbach attacker, held him at arm’s length, and Thuram only became a threat when he moved into a move central position, which was where he scored. Tapsoba was superb, and he could be the ideal partner for William Saliba.
