Arsenal: 3 improvements Reiss Nelson must make to regain relevance
By Josh Sippie
2. Innovation
If you’re going to be a successful attacker, you have to be able to create something out of nothing. Or to keep something going when the momentum flows to you. Right now, Reiss Nelson isn’t doing that, and that’s the biggest addressable problem that he’s struggling with.
Nelson is not dribbling well, he is not creating a lot of chances, he is pretty much just filling a spot on the pitch when he’s out there. The potential is always there for him to do something, since we know what he’s capable of, but the innovation, the inspiration, just isn’t there yet.
Maybe that comes down to taking more risks. For Nicolas Pepe, he takes too many risks. For Reiss Nelson, he really doesn’t take any risks. If these two could just hang out and mitigate the difference, we would be in a great place.
This has to do with time as well. The more he gets out there on the pitch, the more he can get confidence in his own ability and start trying new things.
Most importantly though, No. 1.
