Joe Willock’s best position has not been determined yet, and there’s not even really a frontrunner. He could be a No. 10, he could be a midfield pivot, he’s even played on the wings, though that is looking less and less likely now that we have so many other incredibly young wingers. But whether he’s a No. 10 or a midfield pivot, he is going to have to create chances. That’s what he’s there to do.

Not to mention that’s what Arsenal need the most. They need someone who can keep up a steady stream of chances. It doesn’t have to be his only thing, he’s too action-packed to be confined to creating chances alone. But it still has to be a part of his game and it really hasn’t been lately.

We have a few midfielders like Willock, and a lot more that we could purchase, that could create chances as a side project to their main calling, but for Willock the numbers just aren’t there to back him up yet.

Thus far in his senior Arsenal career across Premier League and Europa League he’s averaging just half a chance per match. Which obviously isn’t good enough.
