1. His leadership is invaluable
At this stage in his career, Luiz’s greatest asset is his leadership. He is a proven winner, a popular figure in the dressing room, a thoroughly experienced footballer at the highest level. He knows how to manage a career. He works hard, inspires others, lives his life to get the best out of his ability.
He has also shown a wonderful willingness to teach those around him. Gabriel Martinelli has struck up quite the relationship with his compatriot, while the younger centre-backs in the squad have spoken highly of Luiz’s leadership skills and communication.
With Saliba arriving next summer, pairing him with a player of Luiz’s experience and understanding could be the perfect easing into Premier League football. Saliba is the long-term future of the centre-back position, but to expect him to command an entire backline in his first season at the club is naive, to say the least.
Keeping Luiz to take the pressure off Saliba and allow the Frenchman to build confidence in a new league, country and team only provides the best foundation for the teenager to enjoy an illustrious career. Luiz helps those around him, and given Arsenal’s youthful squad, that is invaluable.
