Arsenal: 3 improvements Bukayo Saka must make
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal is truly blessed with Bukayo Saka as one of the brightest young talents in the world. But here are three improvements he needs to make.
This year, no matter what happens to Arsenal, there will be universal celebrations that Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka have emerged as two of the best young players in the world of football. The two have been incredibly impressive, ranking among the top goal producers at the club, and the future is just brilliant.
So brilliant that, if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is to leave and thus vacate that left-wing, we wouldn’t even have to buy anyone because both Martinelli and Saka are ready for the job.
Saka has been a work in progress for a very quick burst in North London, having hit the scene running and not stopped since. His delivery from wide angles and his adaptability to play where he’s needed have propped him up as one for the future.
Arsenal needs Bukayo Saka to make these three improvements
But he isn’t perfect, as no one ever is, and he could stand to make some improvements to his game to take it to the next level. Bearing in mind that these will all likely come with game time, which he should be seeing plenty of going forward.
Even if that game time is spent at leftback, or left wingback, he is still going to be a key man on the pitch every time he’s out there.
And so, moving forward, let’s talk about what improvements he needs to make. We start with No. 3.
3. Defensive wherewithal
Not even really his fault, honestly. He’s not a defender, he’s a winger, so the fact that he’s been so adequate on defense already means that he is, as expected, way ahead of the learning curve on that level alone.
But it’s also clear when he plays wingback and fullback that he’s a winger. He always thinks attack first, doesn’t mind abandoning his post and while he does have the speed to make up for lost ground, if he’s going to continue on as a defender of any sorts, this will have to develop a bit more. But it’s likely just a matter of more time spent in the position.
If he’s going to stay there at all.
On to No. 2.
