It’s something we seriously have to consider. Again, I think that we can all agree that Aubameyang is a truly phenomenal presence to have on the club. But I think we can all also agree that Mikel Arteta needs to take the club into a new era.

The same way that Unai Emery did, except that Emery was bogged down by Mesut Ozil‘s contract situation handed to him by Arsene Wenger. While Ozil had some excellent times with the club, his time had passed and Wenger did his successor a severe disservice by locking the team down to his manacle of a contract.

There’s nothing saying that Aubameyang will be the same. And Mikel Arteta would be in charge of the decision, so that’s another positive difference. But You have to wonder what could happen if Aubameyang gets a hefty, long-term deal. Will it end up like Ozil all over again? Will he fade away and see his goal tallies cut down with each passing year?
