1. Rob Holding

The last two seasons of Rob Holding’s career have been near write-offs. The young defender emerged so brilliantly in the latter years of Arsene Wenger’s tenure that expectations for his future went through the roof. He was never going to reach those heights.

After two inconsistent years, he looked extremely comfortable in the opening months of Unai Emery’s tenure. He had worked his way into the starting XI and was consistently performing at a very high level. Then he slipped on the astroturf at Old Trafford, ruptured his ACL, and has not been fit ever since.

Holding has played just three matches since Arteta took over as head coach. Only one was a start. He simply has not been able to get and stay match-fit. However, he also has three years remaining on his contract. There is no need for the club to sell just yet. So why not wait another season to see if he can rediscover his fitness?

Holding’s value will never be lower than it is now By keeping him for another season, Arsenal will not lose money. Conversely, if he plays a handful of matches, he might add to his price next summer. And if he plays well, he can still be a third or fourth-choice option at centre-back. Either way, Arsenal win.
