Arsenal: 3 reasons to extend Dani Ceballos loan another year
By Josh Sippie
2. Maybe he’s worth it in the end
The big concern with Dani Ceballos’ original loan deal was that there was no option to buy. It’s why fans stressed every time he played well. That shadow hidden underneath every good performance, even though there weren’t all that many.
As such, the price he was supposedly going to fetch rose as the season went on. Real Madrid were originally looking for around £30m, but recent reports have it upwards of £45m. Also known as exactly how much Thomas Partey would also cost.
Thus the problem with purchasing him—we don’t know if he’s worth it. This season was supposed to teach us what he was worth and if he was worthy of a major investment, but we can’t conclusively say one way or the other.
Getting him on loan for another year would answer that question. Maybe he is worth £45m and we just haven’t seen it yet. Or maybe we can conclusively say he isn’t. Either way, after a second year we would know for sure, and certainty is a good feeling.
