Arsenal: 3 reasons to extend Dani Ceballos loan another year
By Josh Sippie
1. We can’t afford a better option
Sadly, we have to talk about money yet again. But let’s say something else again too—why did we loan in Ceballos in the first place? A big reason why was for him to audition, but another reason was that we’d already spent so much money and needed more players without having to spend the money.
We didn’t buy Ceballos outright, therefore. We loaned him in. He played a role we desperately needed and this summer, we’re still going to desperately need that role filled without the capital to afford it.
Most of what money we have has to go towards coaxing in Thomas Partey, but that doesn’t cover the pivot position. That said, spending all of our budget on the midfield may not be the most sensible use of funds when we may need more defensive help, as well as needing help in the attack.
So in the simplest form of the argument, Ceballos is still a sensible solution that puts off a major investment at his position without leaving it as a void. And maybe he is the major investment we need, that’s what this is all about.
