Arsenal: Just imagine what Gabriel Martinelli could do

Arsenal’s attack has flattered so much that Gabriel Martinell has largely been forgotten. Imagine what could happen when he’s back.

A team is only as good as its depth, right? Well, when Arsenal are back at full health, their attack is going to be a frightening thing that will be so unfairly deprived of top-tier talent due to lack of starting positions.

Gabriel Martinelli is out for the year thanks to an injury, but come the start of next year, he will be returning to a supercharged attack that, even now, I’m left debating day-in, day-out, as far as how to best maximize the firepower here.

Of course, we don’t know what will happen with Alexandre Lacazette or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but my gut (which is right, like, 58% of the time) tells me that Lacazette is gone and Aubameyang is staying.

But even if they both leave and Mikel Arteta is forced to buy another striker, like Luka Jovic or Odsonne Edouard, this attack is still stacked beyond all imagination.

So stacked, that I haven’t even thought about Gabriel Martinelli since his injury. Not a bit. The “most valuable” prospect in our entire outfit and he hasn’t been on my mind, and I’d imagine many other fans’ minds.

Why? Because between Bukayo Saka, Nicolas Pepe, and Aubameyang, we have three elite attackers who have been rotated in and out with the emerging talents like Joe Willock and Eddie Nketiah.

Everyone is holding their own. Everyone is contributing. There is no weak link in this puzzle. If Willock had to start in the attack, I’d be excited. There’s just so much talent to go around that when you count one person out of the picture, you don’t have to waste a second thought on it.

Martinelli, like Saka, signed a brand new contract extension locking him into the club for the long term. He will be back and he will shine just as bright as Saka currently is. Mix that in with Pepe, Aubameyang, Jovic, Edouard, Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe—pick any of the above, exclude any of the above, we still have an attack riddled with talent and imagination. The likes of which I can’t even begin to wrap my head around.

Seeing what we’re doing now is inspiring. It’s not perfect, but it’s well on its way. I can only imagine what possibilities will be unlocked when Martinelli comes back to the the mixture.
