Arsenal: 7 central defenders—who stays and who goes?
William Saliba
Another simple one here. The Frenchman looks to have an extremely promising future ahead of him and I, along with many other Arsenal fans can’t wait to see him don the red and white shirt. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him thrown in at the deep end straight away.
Verdict: Keep at all costs for as long as possible
David Luiz
Surprisingly for some, unsurprisingly for others, David Luiz signed a new 1-year-contract with Arsenal a few weeks ago. It’s been reported that upon the beginning of next season the enigmatic Brazilian will be demoted to 5th choice centre-back and he’ll adopt a player-coach role.
Like Mustafi, his unreliability is obviously the area for concern. Mind you, he’s by far the most decorated and experienced defender in the squad so he’ll be a great mentor for the likes of Saliba and other incoming young defenders. He could also act as a deputy as an anchor in midfielder if need’s be.
Verdict: Keep, don’t play him too much
Calum Chambers is next.
