Arsenal Qualify for the Champions League

Go big or go home in 2020/21. Even before last season, it was clear that Arsenal would not get a better chance to re-establish themselves as a Champions League team, as Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur were all unconvincing. The fact that two teams qualified for Europe’s premier competition with 66 points is proof that Arsenal wasted a glorious opportunity.

Quite simply, if Arsenal are to finish in the top four in 2020/21, they will require more than 66 points. Chelsea and United are better teams now than what they were twelve months ago. Arsenal’s inability to defeat ‘lesser’ opponents doomed any Champions League hopes last season; nonetheless, if they can become more potent and creative, returning to the top table of European football via the Premier League is feasible.

Should Arsenal finish outside those coveted European places once more, they will have the Europa League as a safety net. They should ease through the group stage and have a young manager who has already shown that he can successfully prepare his team for big knockout games, save for the disaster against Olympiacos. While the Europa League is not the most exciting or glamorous competition, you can bet that Arsenal will do everything in their power to lift the trophy next May.

A new Premier League campaign brings a renewed sense of naive optimism, especially for Arsenal fans. Nevertheless, with Arteta in the dugout, the future looks distinctly brighter.
