4 Players Who Could Still Leave Arsenal This Summer

Arsenal had their first significant outgoing transfer this week with Emiliano Martinez joining Aston Villa.

We are coming to the final few weeks of the transfer window, and with Arsenal still needing to trim the deadwood from the squad, time is running out to move certain players on so we can have funds to bring one or two other targets in.

Here are four we can expect to see leave before the transfer window closes on the 5th October.

Lucas Torreira

In any defensive minded team Lucas Torreira would be a key player; steadfast aggression and quality ball winning skills.

Unfortunately, Torreira’s style of play doesn’t suit the new brand of football that Mikel Arteta is imposing on the team. It has been suggested recently that a move to Torino is on the cards with a fee of £22m expected to be paid over two equal installments, with the move being an initial loan deal.

If Torreira does leave before the end of the transfer window his spell at the club will be remembered as slightly uninspiring despite a positive first few months. However, we will always remember the winning goal and the celebration that followed in the north London derby. Always.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos

I must admit I thought that Sokratis had already left but he is still here (just about).

He was rumoured to be on his way to Napoli earlier on in the transfer window but this looks to be at a standstill currently, but it’s expected that he will be gone from the club before the deadline with his contract expected to be paid off.

Sokratis is another signing that hasn’t really worked out although he was only ever a stop-gap signing to begin with. One thing that can’t be questioned is his passion and willingness to play with his heart on his sleeve, unfortunately his ability didn’t quite match this trait.

Although, I do question that if we signed him five years ago we may have ended up with a much better defender.

Matteo Guendouzi

I have never really jumped on board the Matteo Guendouzi hype-train, whenever I saw him play I was never really amazed by what I saw.

Yes, he has passion and that fiery side that our weak midfield was missing at the time, but for me he was inconsistent and never really stepped up.

We have been offering up to potential buyers all summer with no takers currently, but with our midfield still needing surgery and with at least one midfielder expected to come in over the next couple of weeks I can’t expect Guendouzi to be happy to sit out the season with no first team football.

Will anyone take him, though?

Sead Kolasinac

Our Bosnian tank who, unfortunately, has the turning speed of a tank.

Sead Kolasinac has been linked with a move away consistently over the last couple of weeks. First, a move to West Ham was suggested, this was followed up by it being indicated that Kolasinac was happy to stay and fight for his place at the club next season.

More recently, however, it’s been claimed by SportBILD that Bayer Leverkusen are eyeing a permanent deal hovering around the €10m mark.

A move back to Germany would make sense for Kolasinac as he is currently third choice in the left back position behind Kieran Tierney and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, and any money we can get for a player who isn’t going to be anywhere near the first team next season can only be seen as a result.
