Midfielders

Joe Willock (CM) – I asked Willock to make a statement prior to the Dundalk clash, and while he definitely didn’t read the predicted lineup, he absolutely, 100%, did read the predicted lineup. A superb display against the Irish side was everything we’ve been hoping to see from the academy graduate, who continued to take risks and make runs beyond the last line of defence, only this time, they all came off. Another showing like that would go down a treat.

Granit Xhaka (CM) – As we saw last time out, Xhaka moved into central defence for most of the encounter, and depending on how Molde set up or indeed how the game plays out, he’ll have the freedom to do so again. There is the need for an experienced body in the centre of the pitch with a decent degree of defensive acumen, so he’ll have to start on Thursday. Mohamed Elneny must be shattered, anyway.

Dani Ceballos (CM) – Ideally, we’d see Emile Smith Rowe come in to midfield. There is hope he’ll be fit for the visit of Molde – which he probably will be – but it might be too soon for him to get minutes from the start and could come on after 60 or so minutes depending on what position Arsenal find themselves in. For that reason, it’ll likely be Ceballos from the off.
