Mohamed Elneny (CM) – Good to have him back – a feeling Arteta will share. Starting him on Thursday will be with the aim of getting some minutes in his legs before the weekend, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see one of either Miguel Azeez, Charlie Patino or Ben Cottrell come on for him in the second half.

Emile Smith Rowe (AM) – He’s got to start. A superb cameo against Molde was a timely reminder of his ability, and leaving him out of the side to face Rapid does nobody any favours. Arsenal need a player with vision in advanced areas, and Smith Rowe needs a show of faith from his manager. He’ll be exciting to watch.

Granit Xhaka (CM) – After a desperately poor display against Wolves, the negativity that Granit Xhaka brought to the team was one of the many factors behind the limp display. Is that the approach Arteta wants against Sp*rs? Most fans will hope not but injuries may make it inevitable. The Swiss should get a run out on Thursday given there are few other options and because Joe Willock played the full 90 on Sunday.
