Wing-Backs & Midfielders

Cedric Soares (RWB) – 6.5/10 – My guy! There was a little bit of Column A and Column B from Cedric on Thursday night. The pros outweighed the cons, however. He whipped in a few decent crosses (who for, though?) and overloaded the right side well all night to make the spaces for Nicolas Pepe to pick up possession.

Mohamed Elneny (CM) – 6.5/10 – Talk about a screamer! Elneny only seems to score worldies, with his strike on the night a real collector’s item. Shared the pressing duties with Joe Willock in the centre of the park. Much improved from last week.

Joe Willock (CM) – 6/10 – Not the best night for Willock whose choice of pass and decision-making left a little to be desired. There were opportunities to drive with possession and to move it on, and he sometimes opted for the wrong one. Gets a 6 because he scored.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles (LWB) – 7/10 – Can we have more of that link-up play between Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Smith Rowe, please? Ideally not down the left flank, mind you. Another well-rounded, determined display from the midfielder-cum-
