Eric Garcia’s Cut-Price Transfer Fee

This always helps.

Making a name for himself in the Premier League and now earning international recognition, the hype around Garcia continues to grow. Add to that City’s significant defensive recruitment (again) with the additions of Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake and you’ve got yourself a story.

Where any potential transfer gets interesting is with the 19-year-old’s contract. As per the Mirror, Arsenal have asked to be informed of the ongoing situation, one that sees Garcia’s contract come to an end in the summer.

All he need do is wait until then and Barça can snap him up for free, unless, of course, another club were to swoop in and pay the £13.5m that City are asking for.

This fee could even be dropped down further considering the length of his deal remaining and City’s weak bargaining position, so it’s little wonder that Arsenal are among those keeping tabs.

Arteta worked with Garcia for three-and-a-half years and knows the player well, watching his development closely from young prospect to Spain international. As a product of La Masia, it’s essential that you have certain characteristics, all evident in Garcia.

Total tranquility on the ball in all areas, his vision is always to pass forward, rarely ever making parallel movements with the ball unless forced. Positionally he’s alert to danger and relatively quick off the mark, with his only noticeable downside being in aerial duels. In both boxes, he lacks that presence and aggression.

What next for Arsenal, then?
