Wilfried Zaha – Winger/Striker

That man Wilfried Zaha.

Back in the 2019 summer transfer window, signing the boyhood Arsenal fan was all supporters could talk about. The target on everyone’s lips, some questionable bids were all that halted Arsenal from securing their man.

Well, not so much Arsenal, but Unai Emery. He was the key target of the former boss, who was eventually overruled in favour of the younger option, Nicolas Pepe. With an eye on future resale value, potential and accessibility, a decision was made.

In hindsight, it might have been the wrong call. Pepe has been a total failure, with just a smattering of impressive moments buried beneath regular frustration. Real annoyance since he’s clearly talented.

His assists and goals still rank among the best at the club since his arrival, although for the money paid and the general disappointments, it’s still not near enough.

Next. Nelson's Arsenal Future. dark

This season Zaha is already on track to record his best goalscoring campaign at Crystal Palace with eight goals in just 14 outings, as he flourishes taking up a more central role. He’s still got 30 months left to run on his deal and the Eagles won’t let him go for cheap, although they will know at 28 years of age his value will only decrease. Will Arsenal revisit their prior interest?
