Arsenal Team News

Injuries and absences are finally starting to even out for Arsenal, with the squad taking shape and slowly edging towards its healthiest possible state.

There have been departures since the last fixture, with both Sead Kolasinac and William Saliba departing on six-month loan deals, and even by the time Saturday’s clash kicks off more could have made way.

Outings are expected for the likes of Calum Chambers and Reiss Nelson, who have returned from injuries yet haven’t had minutes of late, while the two key absences for Arsenal are both closing in on comebacks.

Thomas Partey has played 90 minutes for his new club on three occasions since joining in early October, with the Ghanaian being ‘assessed’ ahead of the weekend’s fixture. He’s been back in full training with the squad following his thigh problem.

As for Gabriel, he’s been absent for the past three matches after contracting COVID-19, with the club informing supporters that he’s recovered well and is feeling no ill effects of the virus. Gabriel even posted on Twitter confirming he is back and available.

Apart from those two, Arsenal have a clean bill of health. It’s not often such pleasures are granted to this injury-cursed football club.

As for Newcastle, Allan Saint-Maximin and Ryan Fraser are still unavailable, so too is Jamaal Lascelles, who remains a doubt as he recovers from the effects of COVID-19. The Magpies have Isaac Hayden back following a one-match suspension, while fringe players such as Paul Dummett and Dwight Gayle are likely to earn some minutes.
