Arsenal Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns fro Arteta following the defeat to Southampton on the weekend, with his side coming through the 90 minutes unscathed. Not so much the supporters, however, who were left licking their wounds after enduring that laborious performance.

Absent from the trip south were Pablo Mari and Dani Ceballos, with the Spanish pair missing out with calf problems.

Ceballos is due to have a scan to assess his availability, as confirmed by the club.

"“Left calf. Missed Monday’s match against Newcastle United as a precaution with tight calf. Dani will continue to be assessed in the coming days and will be tested ahead of Saturday’s match.”"

As for the central defender, Mari is only due back in training in the beginning of the week thus it is highly unlikely that he’ll be ready in time to make the matchday squad. Gabriel made his return from a six-game lay-off and looked understandably rusty, particularly in the first half, of the FA Cup defeat, but he will keep his place.

There are questions marks surrounding the presence of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for Tuesday, who was a late withdrawal from the squad to face the Saints. He left the side to go home and deal with a personal matter, one that hasn’t been disclosed, for good reason.

Gabriel Martinelli was an early substitution during the defeat, presumably to manage his return and keep him fresh to start in case of Aubameyang’s continued absence.

As for the hosts, towering central defender Yannik Vestergaard is due to return, as are Nathan Redmond and Moussa Djenpeo on either flank. Oriol Romeu is touch and go in central midfield, while there are also doubts over Michael Obafemi, Mohamed Salisu and Nathan Tella.
