Arsenal Signing a New Left-Back

Realistically with where Arsenal are and what they can acquire this month, left-back is the only position left to fill.

There are still upgrades and additions needed elsewhere, yet the departure of Kolasinac left a hole that needs filling, one that may become even more essential should Maitland-Niles leave this window.

Cedric has performed admirably in the makeshift role, namely against Southampton, but that is one performance in what could be countless more should injury befall Kieran Tierney. In the case of that, the club can’t expect Cedric to produce similar levels twice a week.

Names have been mentioned in recent weeks, including Ryan Bertrand, Tyrick Mitchell and Jordan Amavi, although another name has cropped up north of the border.

Being Scottish and a left-back, the ‘new Tierney’ has been linked a move south to one of either Arsenal or Chelsea. As per Sky Sports, Celtic are also keen on Hibernian’s Josh Doig. The 18-year-old has been in sparkling form this season.

One of a smattering of names to crop up, viable options are few and far between for the Gunners. They would ideally bring in natural cover for Tierney, although finding the right profile who is both available and willing to play backup makes for tough negotiations. Most recently, Patrick van Aanholt has been thrown into the mix as he enters the final six months of his deal at Palace.

Left-back isn’t essential, but nonetheless desired.
