Arsenal succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon, with Thomas Partey falling foul to another injury concern.

Cedric’s lackadaisical pass was intercepted in the build up to Ollie Watkins’ 74 second opener, a goal which put the hosts in the driving seat and ultimately proved to be the winner.

93 and a half minutes of huffing and puffing followed before the final whistle eventually blew, and if a third straight Premier League game without victory wasn’t bad enough, The Arsenal Curse continued in its usual depressing manner.

Seeing another attack fall foul to a weak final ball, the camera panned to Thomas Partey on the deck. There was on grimace on his face or clear signs of pain, but it was clear he’d pulled or strained something. Again.

Arsenal provide Thomas Partey injury update

Arriving from Atletico Madrid in the summer, the Ghanaian had missed a whopping six matches in his entire career up until the move to north London. Six. He’s less than six months into his spell with Arsenal and he’s already missed ten. How many more, we’ll have to wait and see.

"“He had a muscular injury so we had to take him off,” Mikel Arteta said of Thomas Partey on the official Arsenal website. “He could not carry on playing.“I don’t know [how serious it is]. We will see the extent of the injury. He wasn’t feeling well enough to continue playing so we had to take him off.”"

The only saving grace at this stage is that Arsenal have a week to prepare for the upcoming visit of Leeds in the Premier League. That still doesn’t mask over the worrying trend that has befallen the midfielder throughout his short time in red and white.

Two differing thigh problems followed a hip issue, and now a muscular strain has risked putting his Arsenal career on hold again.

It wasn’t his best display against Aston Villa by his own high standards, as he continues to regain that match sharpness he showed prior to his setbacks earlier in the season. However, the partnership he is striking up with Granit Xhaka continues to develop fluidly and his showing was better than the previous outing against Wolves.
