Arsenal provide agonising Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey injury updates
Arsenal have provided the latest injury news ahead of their Premier League clash with Leeds on Sunday, with updates on key duo Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey.
The Scottish left-back has missed the last four Premier League fixtures through injury, with hopes being that he could be back in line for a start for the visit of Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
As for Thomas Partey, he went down with an innocous looking injury late in the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa, a worrying sign for a player who’s been riddled with niggling problems ever since his £45m move from Atletico Madrid in the summer.
Already he’s missed ten matches in his short Gunners career, as opposed to six in his six seasons in La Liga.
Arsenal provide devastating Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney injury updates
With news of the pair’s injuries being confirmed on the club’s official website, it’s agonising news.
"The update read: “Thomas sustained a strain to his left hamstring during last Saturday’s match at Aston Villa and will miss the match against Leeds United on Sunday. Thomas will continue to be assessed and rehabilitate from this injury.”"
No Partey against Leeds is a crushing blow. His press resistance would have been a valuable asset to the high-octane style that Bielsa’s side pose, meaning the likely outcome is that Dani Ceballos will come into midfield to partner Granit Xhaka.
As for Tierney, it was more bad news.
"The updated added: “Kieran is recovering well from a strain to the right lower leg and is aiming to integrate back into training next week.”"
Not even back in training at this point, it casts serious doubts over his potential involvement for the crucial Europa League rounf of 32 first leg tie against Benfica at Stadio Olimpico. With that game penciled in for Thursday, Cedric now looks certain to retain him place for both Leeds and Benfica, and likely more fixtures beyond that.
Given his record since joining Arsenal, the recovery time for Partey is anyone’s guess. Having previously thought the problem to be minor, this worrying trend continues, just as it has with Tierney.
At least ‘recovering well’ was used for Tierney, which is about the only reassuring news from the update, although returning to training ‘next week’ isn’t along the lines of ‘ready to kick some arse’. Arsenal will have to make do without.
